I stumbled upon The Heroes Project in September of 2014 when I attended one of the organization’s fundraisers, Cycle for Heroes. I was invited to attend the event at the last minute, so I didn’t know to expect. I was taken aback to learn about The Heroes Project, intrigued and humbled by its unique vision, message, and goals.

The Heroes Project was founded in the fall of 2009 by Tim Medvetz (you can read more about his story here ) to raise funds to help wounded warriors climb the world’s highest peaks and find renewed purposes and belief in themselves. Other primary supporters are Richard Stark, the co-founder and CEO of Chrome Hearts, and Scott Rosen, the co-founder and COO of Equinox Fitness Clubs. The organization has three goals:

About the Heroes Project

Climb for Heroes

Give hope to Heroes

Give a voice to Heroes

These heroes were injured during their service in the military. Some lost their hands, others their limbs, but more than any physical loss was the loss they sustained to their personal strength. They try to adjust to a new kind of life, but they often feel hopeless and depressed because of their disabilities. Tim wanted to make a difference in their lives and restore their hope. His help and his passion inspired me to want to help the Heroes too.

The Heroes Project has been documenting on film seven wounded heroes in their mission to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents. So far six have accomplished this lofty goal, and one hero, a single-leg amputee named Charlie, remains to climb Mount Everest

Charlie first attempted to summit Mount Everest in 2014 but was unable to due to an avalanche making the trek impossible. It ended up being the deadliest avalanche at Mount Everest.

Charlie will summit the world’s tallest mountain. He will accomplish his goal. Our support has already gotten him so far, he just needs a little more help. Be inspired by the project, this cause, and these heroes.
